The swing!!!
The swing is definately the most important part in the hitting process. I'm going to discuss the main three steps to the swing. They are: the grip, the stride, and the follow through.
1. The grip
It is very important that you hold the bat properly when you swing. If you hold the bat incorrectly you could lose your power, your control, and it could mess up your entire effort.
When you hold the bat, you want to make sure that your knuckles from both hands form a straight line. This will allow you to be able to rollover your top hand and create more wrist speed. If you do not hold the bat correctly, your hands won't rollover smoothly and you may loose bat speed along with control and power.
2. The stride
The stride is very important to keep your balance during your swing. When you stride you should keep in mind the old cliche, "step on the egg shell". This means that you want to take a comfortable stride and step down softly. When your leading foot lands you want to avoid shifting your weight and keep it centered in the middle of your body.
3. The follow through
Once you have the grip and the stride down you're ready to take a full swing. When you stride and follow through you want to stay balanced for a nice smooth swing. When a batter is not balanced during their swing it leads to a jerky motion. You also want to make sure you don't bob your head, and be sure to keep your eye on the ball. That may sound like such a simple thing, "keep your eye on the ball", but even major leaguers have to remind themself at times to watch the ball all the way to the bat.
